Peer review of scientific articles – the most important element of the development of science

Abstract

his article considers main objectives and problems of a peer review of scientific articles. A huge importance of a peer review for the development of both authors and a whole science has been shown. First of all, peer review provides a critical evaluation of results presented in the article and detect arguable conclusions. If authors do not agree with reviewers’ comments, they can argue, clarify and prove their point of view. Quality of writing is another important issue to be raised by reviewers. Well-written articles have higher chances for reading, citation and application by other scientists and engineers. Leading international journals provide the most efficient peer-review because they can attract world’s top scientists. Despite a huge importance of peer review, many scientists select simpler way and prefer publication in journals not providing qualified peer review or even without a real peer review. As a rule, it negatively affects the overall quality of their research. Since 2013, Editorial Board of the Chemical Bulletin of Kazakh National University actively works on the improvement of the quality of own publications. Independent peer review of all submitted articles is the main tool for achievement of this goal. Priority in publications is given to manuscripts written in English, which can be reviewed by best scientists from any country.
